- Separate chats have independent billing timers.
- Changing the focused conversation does not pause another client’s meter.

The client situation
Two clients may need short written exchanges at the same time. One is checking a spreadsheet total; another is finding the wording of a question. A consultant can sometimes work across those pauses. The useful service is a clearly scoped live chat with a manageable response time.
Fictional worked example: The names, service, times and prices below are invented to explain the workflow. They are not Ownlybiz customer results, recommended market rates or an income forecast. All amounts are USD.
A practical use case for a consultant
Maya, an imaginary operations consultant, offers live text help with one small reporting question at a time. Alex wants to understand why two weekly totals differ. Jo wants to decide which orders belong in a report. Both can describe the issue in a few sentences and work independently between replies. Neither is purchasing a complete spreadsheet rebuild.
Maya advertises a shared live-chat window and explains that she may handle two separate conversations. She starts with a limit of two because that is the service she can support. The platform's maximum allowance does not determine how much attention a client needs.
Sensitive coaching, a complex reading or a question that requires continuous attention may need a dedicated session instead. Parallel chat is a capacity option, not the right format for every client.
Understand what multiple chats means
Each client has a separate private conversation and its own session timer. This is not a shared group chat. Switching from Alex's room to Jo's room does not pause Alex's active billing timer. Reading, thinking and waiting for a response can therefore occur during paid session time.
That detail belongs in the service description before someone starts. Do not sell uninterrupted individual attention while accepting overlapping chats. If delays become substantial, stop accepting new sessions and agree a suitable next step with the affected client.
Ownlybiz's published Starter, Pro and Scale plans have parallel-chat ceilings of one, five and twenty respectively. New settings start at one. The effective allowance also depends on account controls and whether multi-session admission is active. Voice and video sessions remain exclusive; this feature is not a way to conduct several video calls or add a call while human chats are active.
A walkthrough of the expert setup
1. Define the service, live-chat rate and expected reply pace. Explain whether the session may overlap with another client's conversation.
2. In Settings → Availability, find Parallel chat sessions. Choose a conservative number within the allowance displayed for your account, then select Save chat limit.
3. Read the status shown there. If multi-session admission is not active for the account, a higher saved setting alone does not make parallel admission available.
4. Finish the required payment setup and enable the relevant live service before accepting paid requests. Use availability you can actually staff.
5. Start with one client. Accept a second only when both questions and your workload make that reasonable. Keep each response in the correct client's room.
Follow two separate client journeys
Alex reads the live-chat description, sees the rate and completes the required payment authorization. Maya accepts the request. Chat billing starts when both participants have joined and payment readiness permits the session to start; opening a service page is not itself billed chat time.
Alex describes the mismatch and checks a figure while Maya reads Jo's newly accepted question. Jo has independently reviewed the same service terms and completed the payment step. Maya switches between the separate rooms, answers each question and uses End Session for each conversation when its agreed work is complete. Each client can review their own session record.
In this fictional timeline, Alex's billing runs from 14:00 to 14:12 and Jo's from 14:08 to 14:16. Their sessions overlap for four minutes.
The $30 is a combined service amount before applicable adjustments and fees, not take-home income. These exact-minute examples assume no free introductory time or discount. Ownlybiz calculates time-based amounts from elapsed whole seconds and rounds currency to cents; this table does not imply that every partial minute is rounded up.
| Fictional session | Billed duration | Example rate | Service amount |
|---|---|---|---|
| Alex | 12 minutes | $1.50 per minute | $18.00 |
| Jo | 8 minutes | $1.50 per minute | $12.00 |
| Combined | 20 client-minutes within a 16-minute window | Two separate sessions | $30.00 |

Keep the offer understandable
A suitable description might say: “Live text help with one reporting question. I may handle two separate chats during this window. The session timer continues while we exchange and review messages. For work needing my uninterrupted attention, arrange a dedicated session.” This is sample wording to adapt to a real service, not an offer from Maya.
An ordinary message left for later is a different expectation from a metered live session. Avoid advertising unlimited access or an always-available expert merely because the site has messaging. Human chat also remains human work; parallel sessions do not imply an AI agent is answering clients.
Start with the smallest useful capacity, check the client experience and raise it only when the service still works well. Review current Ownlybiz plans and trial terms, then configure the allowance your dashboard actually makes available.
Can clients see each other’s conversations?
Each client has a separate private conversation and a separate session timer. Parallel one-to-one chats are not a shared group chat.
Does switching chat rooms pause the other client’s timer?
No. Switching rooms does not pause another active session’s timer. Explain overlapping service and reply expectations before accepting paid requests, and keep the workload within what you can support.
Can I take a voice or video call while running human chats?
Voice and video sessions remain exclusive of other active human sessions. Parallel-chat capacity does not enable several simultaneous calls or a call alongside active human chats. Use the allowance and admission status shown in your dashboard.
